Program Overview:
Accidents happen, that's why we have emergency contraception (the morning after pill). Emergency contraception (EC) is a safe and effective way to prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse. It can be started up to five days (120 hours) after unprotected intercourse. This knowledge based activity will enhance the health care providers understanding of emergency contraception and how to counsel patients on the proper use of EC.

- Describe the ideal candidate for use of emergency contraception
- Discuss the mechanism of action, efficacy, dosing, safety, and tolerability of progestin-only emergency contraception

About The Speaker: |
Laura Borgelt, PharmD
Dr. Borgelt is an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Denver in the Departments of Clinical Pharmacy and Family Medicine. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Colorado. She completed a Primary Care Residency with the University of Colorado and Kaiser Permanente Rocky Mountain Division. Dr. Borgelt is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist and a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
Dr. Borgelt's teaching, practice, and research focus on women's health pharmacotherapy. She has published numerous peer-reviewed women's health articles in Pharmacotherapy, American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, Clinical Reviews in Bone and Mineral Metabolism, Expert Review of Pharmacoeconomics Outcomes and Research, Gender Medicine, Journal of Family Practice, and Journal of the American Pharmacists Association as well as several book chapters. She has presented women's health topics at local, national, and international conferences. Dr. Borgelt has served as past-chair of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Women's Health Practice and Research Network (PRN), participated in the AHRQ Expert Panel for Medication Overuse in Women/Older Adults, and has been a member of the University of Colorado Women's Health Program Steering Committee and the AACP Women's Health Content Expert Panel. She has been the recipient of several teaching and clinical awards and is an active member of and leader in multiple professional organizations.

This is a live presentation delivered over the internet in an online classroom environment. In order to see, hear and participate in the class you must have the following:
- Broadband internet connection, such as T1, Cable or high-speed DSL.
- Computer speakers or headphones.
- Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher (Recommended), FireFox 3.0 or higher (with media player plugin), Safari 3.2 or higher, Google Chrome.
We do not support AOL. It is recommended to minimize AOL and open an Internet Explorer or Firefox window.
Mac Users we reccomend Safari or Firefox, but you will need to verify your Windows Media Player Plugin.
- Computer monitor with screen resolution set to 1024 x 768 pixils or higher.
- Windows Media Player plugin for your internet browser. Most computers come with the plugin already installed. But, it is still very important that you test to ensure you will be able to hear the class.
- Due to monitoring guidelines, computer sharing is NOT permitted. Credit is given to one user per computer.
