Program Overview
Pharmacists are often the medical professional that patients reach out to for the latest in drug information. With all the new products available for diabetes, it is very difficult for the pharmacist to keep up with the latest advances in medication. In addition, the newer medications require more explanation than in the past. This continuing education course gives the pharmacist a solid knowledge base to enlighten the patients on these new therapies with an emphasis on methods to help the patient control postprandial glucose.

Nurse Educational Objectives
  • Explain the underlying metabolic defects of type 2 diabetes and why so many patients fail to achieve treatment goals with the current treatment algorithm
  • Identify the contribution of postprandial glucose concentrations to overall glycemic control
  • Review the pharmacological approaches to the management of type 2 diabetes and their therapeutic mechanisms of action to include alternatives provided by the new incretin-related anti-diabetic agents
Pharmacist Educational Objectives
  • Explain the underlying metabolic defects of type 2 diabetes and why so many patients fail to achieve treatment goals with the current treatment algorithm
  • Pharmacists will have the capability to counsel and to educate patients (and their families) who seek end of life pain relief
  • Identify the contribution of postprandial glucose concentrations to overall glycemic control
  • Review the pharmacological approaches to the management of type 2 diabetes and their therapeutic mechanisms of action to include alternatives provided by the new incretin-related anti-diabetic agents
