Program Overview
Schizophrenia is an often-misunderstood illness. Even those who have it do not totally understand the natue of their condition, so it can be a confusing, terrifying experience. Patients stricken with schizophrenia and their families often seek advice from their community pharmacist. In order to effectively counsel patients affected by schizophrenia, pharmacists should have a greater insight into the condition and the treatment options available for the management of schizophrenia. The program includes a review of signs and symptoms, an update of currently available treatment options for schizophrenia and strategies to educate patients and family members on drug treatment and the long-term medication and adherence problems commonly encountered
