Program Overview
Viral hepatitis is a major cause of cirrhosis and liver cancer in the United States.  Projections specifically for chronic viral hepatitis C predict a doubling in the number of cases of decompensated cirrhosis and primary liver cancer by 2020 and a 2 to 3 fold increase in deaths.  Two new therapies have come to market for the treatment of chronic viral hepatitis C but carry significant risk for anemia and numerous potential drug-drug interactions.  This presentation will review the basics of all types of viral hepatitis and highlight management strategies for complications associated with new therapies for chronic viral hepatitis C.

  • Evaluate currently available literature for the management of anemia associated with triple drug therapy
  • Evaluate currently available literature for the management of drug-drug interactions associated with boceprevir and telaprevir therapy and develop recommendations for the management of the interactions
