Program Overview
The National Association for Continence (NAFC) estimates that 75-80% of urinary incontinence sufferers are women, 9-13 million of whom have bothersome, severe, symptoms.  Many patients with that problem can do something to eliminate or at least reduce it.  As front line providers, pharmacists can help patients and women in particular cope with this debilitating and embarrassing disorder.  This program will educate pharmacists on barriers to diagnosis and treatment of urinary incontinence and offer effective and appropriate communication techniques to engage and counsel patients about urinary incontinence.

Nurse Educational Objectives
  • Outline the prevalence of urinary incontinence (highlighting women) and the significant barriers to treatment.
  • Describe the different treatment options for UI in patients with overactive bladder (OAB) including conservative, behavioral and pharmaceutical management.
Pharmacist Educational Objectives
  • Outline the prevalence of urinary incontinence (highlighting women) and the significant barriers to treatment.
  • Describe the different treatment options for UI in patients with overactive bladder (OAB) including conservative, behavioral and pharmaceutical management.
  • Outline the pharmacist’s role in identifying and treating UI to include improving patient identification, adherence and outcomes.
