Program Overview
According to a 2011 report issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity is now a problem in all 50 states.  In 2010, no state reported an obesity rate of less than 20%, which means no state has met the "Healthy People 2010" goal of reducing obesity rates to 15% among American adults.  Obesity is also a problem among America's children with obesity rates having tripled since 1980.  Almost 20% of children ages 2-19 years are said to be obese but recent reports suggest that this number may have stabilized.  This program will take a closer look at the impact of obesity on American society, discuss the treatments available for obesity in both specialty and primary practice, and conclude with the role of the pharmacist in reducing obesity in the United States.
