Program Overview
Alzheimer's is the number one neurodegenerative disease in the United States. It can affect adults of any age but is the main cause of dementia in the elderly population, afflicting 20 to 40% of those over 85 years old. The management of those with Alzheimer's involves a team approach that includes the medical treatment, counseling and education of both patients and caregivers. This presentation will review the etiology, pathogenesis and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, as well as the medical treatments and the role of pharmacists in the team approach.
