Astrid Bernal is a recent graduate of University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, class of 2016. She was born in Bogota, Colombia, and migrated to the United States at the age of one. She grew up in a Hispanic household where she learned to read, speak, and write Spanish. Growing up Hispanic allowed her to witness some of the difficulties her family faced, especially when receiving healthcare. As a result of these experiences, she is able to relate to the Hispanic community and the struggles they go through on a daily basis. Pharmacy school sparked her interest in ambulatory care, and ignited her passion to help people in the community. She currently works as a community pharmacist and is dedicated to using this education to give back to others and the community.
