    • Overview

      This program will discuss and describe current trends in prescription drug diversion and/or abuse by patients and prescribers.  It will focus on the federal and Florida pharmacy practice laws regarding the role of the pharmacist in determining if a prescription is for a legitimate medical purpose, proper assessment of controlled substance prescriptions, and common red flags of potential abuse and/or diversion.  This will include the appropriate use of a prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs).  Finally, it will discuss common patient counseling and educational information to discuss with patients receiving opioid prescriptions including storage and disposal.

       

      This course meets the requirement for the Florida Board of Pharmacy Validation of Controlled Substances credit for pharmacists.
