    • Overview

The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) developed the AGS Beers Criteria with the intention of improving medication selection, reducing adverse drug events and to serve as a tool to educate clinicians and patients by reducing exposure to potentially inappropriate medications (PIMS) that pose higher risk when used in older adults.  Since 2011, the AGS introduced a scheduled triennial update with the latest having been released in 2019. This update will provide opportunities to translate criteria into practice and address some of the controversy and myths that continue to prevail.
