Overview

In August 2020, in reaction to the declining numbers of routine vaccinations in 2020, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published a declaration of amendment to the PREP Act that expanded the role that pharmacists can play in the provision of adolescent immunizations. Although the AMA and AAP oppose this expansion of pharmacist scope based on a perceived negative impact on participation in well-child visits, this declaration could provide pharmacists an outstanding opportunity to reduce disparities and increase healthcare access.
 
This activity will strengthen pharmacists’ knowledge of adolescent vaccine disparities, provide pharmacists with vaccine education based on the ACIP vaccination schedule for pre-teens and teens, and equip pharmacists with best practices in counseling and advocacy for well-child visits during these years of life.
