    • Overview

      This session is part of the Pain Management Specialty Pharmacist series. It explores the effective management of pain within the context of the current opioid crisis. This session seeks to examine the adjutant use of antidepressant medications, “muscle relaxants,” benzodiazepines, and gabapentinoids based upon pharmacological characteristics.

      Identify appropriate patient recommendations and explanations for the use of Gabapentinoids (e.g. gabapentin, pregabalin, and baclofen) as adjunctive pain management therapy based on respective unique pharmacological characteristics.
      Distinguish the respective differences amongst the medications within the class of medications known as the benzodiazepines (i.e. Benzos), with particular attention to duration of action and metabolism.
      Recognize the respective mechanisms of action and patient counseling points for each medication within the commonly referred to class of medications known as ??muscle relaxants????
      Recognize how to select an appropriate adjuvant antidepressant medication for the management of pain for a given patient with respect to pain management efficacy and anticipated side effects.
