    • Overview

The literature has shown us that smoking leads to cardiovascular and respiratory related issues. Smoking cessation is key in preventing tobacco related health problems. The most recommended nicotine replacement therapies are available over-the-counter. All pharmacists should be aware and updated on these products including warnings, contraindications, counseling points, dosing etc. Pharmacists should also be aware of prescription NRT and non-nicotine treatments. General counseling on quitting, support programs and behavioral therapies are also key in the management of smoking cessation.
