    • Overview

This monograph considers the inherently unsafe aspects of prescription drugs, and the challenges this unsafe characteristic of drugs may present to health care professionals. Prescription drugs are particularly unsafe when patients use them contrary to the way they have been directed to use them. Health professionals can reduce the hazards associated with drug use by insisting that patients follow directions. Regulatory agencies, particularly the FDA, have adopted programs to promote safe drug use.
