      This session is part of the Pain Management Specialty Pharmacist series. It explores the effective management of pain within the context of the current opioid crisis. This session seeks to summarize the best practices in pain management regarding patient education, treatment selection, and adherence and diversion monitoring. The role of urine drug screening and the incorporation of naloxone into is discussed. DEA “Red Flags” for prescribers and dispensers are functionally explored, with an emphasis on how to respectfully proceed when misuse, abuse, or diversion is suspected.

      Distinguish urine drug screening (UDS) from urine drug testing (UDT) and identify appropriate recommendations as to how to conduct either in a patient care practice.
      Identify appropriate, succinct, and comprehensive patient education on naloxone.
