  • Overview

Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable disease, death, and disability in the United States. Approximately 50% of tobacco users attempt to quit each year, although only 10% succeed. Pharmacologic agents may be effectively incorporated to significantly increase the chances of success, yet 50-75% of smokers who try to quit do not use any evidence-based cessation counseling or medications. Healthcare personnel, then, have an enormous opportunity to assist patients in developing an effective tobacco cessation plan. This session, then, explores the current pharmacological agents available for tobacco cessation, including an overview of off-label uses and emerging trends.
