In this course you will learn the Spanish pronunciation rules, enabling you to accurately pronounce Hispanic names, and even lengthy generic drug names. The Spanish pronunciation system is highly regular and within an hour you will have learned all that you need to know in order to confidently pronounce each new word that you encounter. Your accurate pronunciation will ensure that your patients and customers understand you with ease. You will also learn some important cultural differences that will enable you to better understand and serve your Hispanic patients.
In this course you will learn grammatical formulas that will enable you to put together any necessary phrase or sentence for a variety of situations. We start with nouns. All nouns in Spanish, including objects, have gender. You will learn to make adjectives agree with the nouns that they describe, and you’ll begin learning nouns and adjectives applicable to your environment. You will also learn the pronouns needed to refer to yourself, to refer to a patient, and to address a patient directly.
In this course you will learn high frequency verbs that will be useful in your profession. You will learn their meanings. You will also learn the form to use to refer to yourself, as well as the form needed to address and refer to a patient. You will learn to use two verbs together to give “soft” commands and to make inquiries of your patients. You will learn to make sentences negative, also. You will learn to put all parts of speech, including those taught in Course Two, together in the correct order (syntax) to put together your own sentences so that you can communicate smoothly.
In this course you will learn the basic vocabulary needed for a variety of situations. You will learn greetings and courteous expressions, question words, colors, numbers, days, months, and dates. Question words will enable you to obtain vital patient information, such as name and date of birth. You’ll also learn how the Spanish naming system is different and how to correctly file patients in the system. Numbers will be useful in stating quantity and frequency for directions for use and for obtaining the patient’s phone number. You’ll also be able to state the cost of the medication. You’ll also learn to tell time so that you can tell the patient how long it will take to fill the prescription and when to return.
Once equipped with the fundamentals, you will be ready to learn specific pharmaceutical terminology. In this course you will learn body parts in Spanish as well as symptoms. This will enable you to understand a patient who is describing pain, discomfort, and conditions. You will learn the phrases necessary for typical pharmacy scenarios, like prescription drop-off and pick-up. You will learn to communicate problems with (re)filling prescriptions and the phrases necessary to discuss insurance.
In this course, also specific to pharmaceutical terminology, you will learn drug names and routes. You will learn how to say over-the-counter medications and products in Spanish, also. You will learn to ask for drug allergies and to inquire about medications that the patient is currently taking. You will learn how to put together the various components for directions for use. Some of them are put together for you as examples. You will learn to give important drug warnings, including those related to interactions and side effects. You will finish this lesson with important phrases for ascertaining patient comprehension of these directions and warnings.
