Gastrointestinal Infections: What Pharmacy Technicians Need to Know

Enteric (intestinal) infections remain very common: In 2019, the number of enteric infection cases worldwide was estimated at about 6.59 billion, a 42.4 % increase since 1990. This course provides pharmacy technicians with a foundational understanding of gastrointestinal (GI) infections, including their common causes, signs, and symptoms. Technicians will learn how to support patient care through appropriate hydration techniques and evidence-based use of over-the-counter (OTC) products when indicated. Emphasis will be placed on applying this knowledge in real-world pharmacy settings to improve patient outcomes, ensure safe self-care recommendations, and enhance professional competence in managing GI-related concerns.
