Supplements in the Spotlight: A Technician’s Guide to Nutraceuticals

This 50-minute continuing education program is designed to equip pharmacy technicians with the knowledge and confidence to support patients who use dietary supplements and nutraceuticals. The presentation will provide an overview of supplement regulation under DSHEA, highlight commonly used products across different health areas, and review some of the key evidence behind their use. Emphasis will be placed on the technician’s role in identifying safety concerns, recognizing potential drug–supplement interactions, and knowing when to refer patients to the pharmacist. With interactive patient case scenarios, participants will develop the necessary tools to help ensure safe and effective supplement use among patients.
