More than 1.2 million individuals are living with HIV/AIDS, yet, less than half of these individuals achieve virologic suppression with antiretroviral therapy (ART) due to unrecognized or unmanaged side effects, drug interactions, or issues with adherence. The goals of ART are to reduce HIV/AIDS associated morbidity and mortality as well as reduce the number of new infections.
Another area of increased interest is pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent transmission of HIV. Although PrEP has been shown safe and effective in reducing HIV transmission, various requirements and educational needs must be met prior to dispensing PrEP.
This program meets the requirements for FL HIV/AIDS credit.
