Weight management in older adults involves more moving parts than a single guideline can capture: sarcopenia, frailty, medication access, and long-term treatment success all factor in. This 3-hour, board-approved course brings those pieces together, building practical, case-tested skills as you work toward Florida’s consultant pharmacist CE requirement.
Weight Management in Older Adults is a comprehensive three-hour educational program designed to equip consultant pharmacists with the knowledge and practical skills needed to support safe, individualized weight management in older adults.
The program begins with a one-hour webinar that reviews the epidemiology of obesity, current treatment guidelines, available pharmacologic therapies, clinical pearls for medication selection, and evolving issues related to medication access and cost.
Building on this foundation, the two-hour interactive module expands upon these concepts through assigned readings, case-based learning, and engaging activities focused on real-world clinical decision-making.
Participants will explore the unique challenges of obesity management in older adults, including sarcopenia, frailty, and the importance of preserving muscle mass and physical function during weight loss.
Additional lessons guide learners through selecting appropriate pharmacologic therapy based on patient-specific factors, counseling and monitoring patients receiving anti-obesity medications, navigating insurance coverage and documentation requirements, and supporting long-term treatment success.
Together, the webinar and interactive module provide a practical, evidence-informed approach to helping consultant pharmacists optimize weight management while promoting health, function, and quality of life in older adults.
