The high health risks of nicotine use, and smoking in particular, are widely recognized. The risk of dying from emphysema, for example, is up to 17 times in smokers and the risk of dying from cancers of the trachea and lungs are increased up to 23 times! Nonetheless, many patients find themselves in continual battles, struggling with addiction to products that contain nicotine. This session seeks to examine these ongoing battles from the lens of a community pharmacy. Resources and innovative practice techniques are addressed, both from a pharmacologic standpoint and other supportive and ancillary resources available to patients.
